The role of the group is to foster and promote fundamental and applied research in the field of High Voltage Engineering, thus cultivating a dynamic UK research community.
The group will undertake a range of responsibilities and activities, including those aiming to:
- Facilitate the cooperation and collaboration amongst UK research groups and industry in the field of High Voltage Engineering and associated disciplines.
- Establish a cohesive community with the reputation to interact effectively with funding bodies such as DTI and EPSRC.
- Ensure that the field of High Voltage Engineering, which contributes to the safe, efficient, reliable and sustainable supply and utilisation of electrical energy throughout the UK, is adequately resourced.
- Identify key research challenges facing UK electrical industries and ensure that the necessary resources and effort are directed to support these in a coordinated manner, thus contributing to the economic development of the UK.
- Promote and enhance the international standing of the UK in High Voltage Engineering research.
- Establish industrial contacts (eg National Grid Transco, Rolls Royce, Scottish Power etc) emphasising the breadth of expertise and resources available within the UK research field in High Voltage Engineering.
- Inagurate a national series of events aimed at promoting our research interests amongst:
+ Industry
+ Funding bodies
+ Professional bodies
+ Future undergraduates
- Cultivate areas of interdisciplinary research, particularly those leading to contributions on environmental issues.
